Match Report | Tamworth secured three points at home to Old Wulfrunians with a spirited fight back from a goal down. As the only team in the division to play back to back games this weekend Tamworth showed the effects and were on the back foot early on as they made a lacklustre start and Old Wulfs were camped in the Tamworth half. Cook in particular had to be on top form as Old Wulfs sprung a number of attacks through their tricky right winger. When Old Wulfs did get their goal it was fully deserved and although Popple saw a reverse stick strike just fly wide Tamworth’s defence did well to keep the deficit down to one going into the half time break.
The second half saw Tamworth look much brighter and a tireless display from Wagstaff, Herring and especially Haywood in midfield gave Tamworth much more possession and they scored twice in five minutes to edge in front. Martin played a perfectly weighted pass into Sperrink on the left and he drilled his shot past the onrushing ‘keeper before Goode released Brisco moments later who cooled flicked beyond the ‘keeper from the right hand side of the D. Brisco continued to be a menace and Hancox was also unlucky not to extend the lead when his run and shot was scrambled off the line but Tamworth held on to secure a 3 point lead at the top of the league. |
