Match Report | Tamworth won 4-1 against bottom of the table West Bromwich, but the margin of victory would have been even greater had Tamworth been less profligate in front of goal. Controlling possession inside West Brom’s half Sperrink spurned a number of excellent opportunities to get the first goal before he scrambled in a rebound off the ‘keeper when Hancox’s powerful shot was saved.
In the second half West Brom continued to sit deep and attempt to find their lone front man with long balls and despite excellent marshalling by Langford and Acheson the away side were back on level terms from a short corner. The goal woke the home side and after another blocked shot from Hancox fell kindly for Sperrink to fire in, the lead was extended further from two short corners; firstly with Haywood turning in on the volley when Herring’s deflected shot looped to him and then Herring reacted sharply to beat the keeper at the second attempt.
The 3 vital points gained take Tamworth second in the league, only goal difference keeping them off the top of the table. |
