Match Report | The ladies seconds secured an important win on Saturday with a hard fought battle against North Staffs. Tamworth made a sluggish start to the game as their opponents attacked from the off creating numerous chances with the town side thankful to goal keeper Lisa Moore who made a number of excellent saves alongside defenders Lucy Plant and Paula Cooper also making a number of vital tackles. As the town settled they started to keep possession better and were awarded a penalty flick when a shot was illegally stopped on the line but Gemma Wheelhouse saw the resulting penalty well saved, and the sides went into half time all square. Tamworth’s second half performance was much improved as they started to take a foothold in the game with their midfield quartet dominating possession. Marite Liepina-Liepa opened the scoring when she followed up a Claire Miles shot which was well saved by the keeper, Alex Gayton added a second soon after with a well taken shot from a short corner. North Staffs scored a consolation later on but Tamworth held on for 3 valuable points to end the first half of the season on a high. Team POM Lisa Moore League POM Claire Miles |
