Match Report

The ladies seconds recorded their third straight win on Saturday with an impressive performance against fellow strugglers Cannock on Saturday.  The opening exchanges were evenly contested but as the game went on Tamworth settled and played some excellent hockey with youngsters Elissa Morris and Hannah Jarvis combining well down the right flank resulting in some great crosses into the ‘D’ from one of which Claire Miles latched onto to give the town side the lead.  Now playing with real confidence Tamworth put pressure on the Cannock defence, Claire Miles got her second from a smart short corner strike before Marite Liepina-Liepa added a third when she reacted quickest to follow up a rebound off the keepers pads to give the town side a commanding 3-0 half time lead.

Tamworth started the second session in positive fashion as they continued to push forward creating a number of chances with Amie Hyde, Kirsty Wright and Hannah Jarvis all seeing shots well saved by the Cannock keeper.   Tamworth’s fourth goal came when Claire Miles claimed her hat-trick from another short corner strike.  Cannock then enjoyed a good ten minute spell as the town side relaxed a bit too much and scored two quick goals from short corners to put some pressure on the town side.  Tamworth regrouped and settled again to see out the remainder of the game for a well-deserved win which sees them move out of the relegation spots and up to joint fifth in the table.  There were good performances from Lucy Plant and Harriot Gilman with POM going to Claire Miles.
