Match Report | Tamworth faced Bloxwich on Saturday and came away with a well-earned point. The away team started brightly and began forcing attacks from the start. The Tamworth defence managed to stay strong and keep Bloxwich out and began to settle and get more organised. A couple of short corners were awarded but these were well defended and the shots were cleared. Tamworth had now settled and managed to start attacking. Kate Caddick ran relentlessly in midfield putting attacks together and getting back to defend when necessary. Laura Bostock and Tilly Bryan playing upfront were both trying hard to convert the chances that were beginning to be made. Bloxwich then caught Tamworth out on the break from one of these attacks and managed to score the first goal of the game. This goal made Tamworth even more determined, but they went down to 10 players for a while after a nasty head injury. Shortly after the injury stoppage an equaliser was scored by Laura Bostock. After half time Tamworth were back to 11 players and came out the stronger team battling hard and trying to get another goal. There was plenty of end to end action but none of the chances were converted. With only about 6 minutes of play remaining Bloxwich started attacking more and had 4 short corners awarded in a row. Fortunately the defence of Fiona Whittaker, Wendy Garrett, Lesley Broadway and Vicky Sanford with GK Vicky Butler held strong and kept all the shots out. Tamworth then sent the ball to their end and had a couple of chances to win the game, but these were well saved by their keeper. A final Bloxwich attack was thwarted by the final whistle with the result being a 1-1 draw. League POM Laura Bostock Team POM was Kate Caddick |
