Match Report | Tamworth returned to league action on Saturday with a home game against Stafford. The game started quite brightly with lots of passing and pressure to get into the attacking D. A couple of short corners were won but not converted. Then, against the run of play, Stafford capitalised on a poorly taken short corner to make a quick counter attack. Outnumbered in defence they managed to open the scoring with a tap in at the far post. Tamworth kept their heads up and a strong run from Elaine Foxley saw her get into the D and score with a great long range shot to level the scores. The passing and attacking moves continued and Foxley got her second goal of the game again from open play. Stafford were quite quick on the break and won a couple of short corners but these were well defended by Tamworth. In the second half Tamworth increased the pressure upfront and created numerous chances. A third goal was scored by Chris Mander from a cross from Foxley. The midfield and defence managed to contain any attempts to attack and kept Stafford out in the second half. The final score was 3-1 with League POM and Team POM being Elaine Foxley. |
