Match Report |
Tamworth completed a highly satisfying smash and grab on Saturday after a long trip to Evesham was rewarded with 3 points courtesy of a 1-0 win. Having started brightly Tamworth’s pace was causing the Evesham defence trouble and they took the lead when Trevasse reacted sharply to deflect in at the back post following a deflected short corner from Wagstaff. This however proved to be one of few chances for the away side as Evesham then dominated the rest of the half winning a number of short corners as Tamworth’s defence had to deal with wave after wave of Evesham attack. This trend continued in the second half and despite the continuing pressure the defence did limit Evesham to few chances from open play with Langford and Rourke at the heart of the defence having to put in a mammoth effort to keep out a spirited performance from Evesham, with further short corners being conceded and repelled. Pipe was able to keep a second clean sheet of the season with his man of the match performance optimised by a stunning save from a drag flick which looked destined for the top corner before he flung himself to his right to keep it out.
Overall a great win, taking Tamworth back to second in the table and they will hope to remain in the promotion places after facing Redditch at home this coming Saturday. |
