Match Report | Having lost their two previous opening league games, Tamworth knew this game was essential to gain valuable points from local rivals Stafford. With a full complement of players, Tamworth capitalised on this, passing and moving the ball with a new found confidence. Holloway and Shaw’s strong attack paid off with numerous shots on goal from both short corners and open play, but Stafford’s defence kept the score 0-0 at half time. The second half, Tamworth were much more positive – swift, effective passing and strong defensive play from Rhodes, Pound, Bowyer, Rourke, and keeper Miles meant Tamworth were able to move up field for a short corner rebound, which found Callum Taylor to push it over at close range. The midfielders’ continuous effort to keep possession was sustained by man of the match Mike Jones and provided the forwards numerous opportunities at goal. Ultimately, Holloway’s strike at goal was saved by the keeeper’s helmet, which was instantaneously swept into the net for Tamworth’s second goal by James Calder. |
