Match Report | The second match of the league season saw Tamworth Men’s 1st travel to West Bromwich aiming to continue their solid form from the opening week. A good all round performance saw Tamworth run out comfortable 6-2 winners in a game which included 5 different scorers for the town. A high tempo start saw West Brom camped in their own half and Tamworth raced to an early 2-0 lead with goals from Sperrink and Popple. A rare defensive lapse saw the home side pull a goal back and get more into the game, but strong work from the Tamworth midfield trio of Wagstaff, Haywood & Herring kept the opposition at bay and allowed Hancox to score and take the game to 3-1 at half time. After the break further goals from Brisco, Popple and Cook came after some excellent spells of attacking play, with a late goal from West Brom being the only negative of the second half. This win confirms Tamworth as the early leaders of West Midlands Division 1, a position they must strive to maintain with continued hard work. Man of the match – Tom Sperrink. |
