Tamworth Men’s 1st started their league campaign in West Midlands Division 1 in impressive style with a 5-0 win over Wednesbury.
On a blisteringly hot October afternoon Tamworth started strongly creating a number of early chances before Ian Wagstaff converted a penalty corner for a 1-0 lead. Further pressure resulted in goals from Ben Acheson and Wagstaff again taking Tamworth into a 3-0 half time lead.
After the break good midfield and attacking play created chances for Terry Sperrink and Rob Trevasse who both converted impressively to take the score to 5-0. This is how the game ended after strong defensively play from Dave Langford and Mike Pipe ensured Wednesbury’s forwards were kept at bay.
Tamworth should be encouraged by this performance but must look to improve further against stronger opposition if they are to gain the promotion they seek. Man of the match – Ben Acheson. |
