Match Report | The ladies thirds secured their first league win of the season against local rivals Lichfield on Saturday. The town side started brightly putting the home side on the back foot with Elissa Morris and Megan Hogben combining well down the right flank but it was Lichfield who took the lead with their first meaningful attack. An injury to Wendy Garrett meant Tamworth had to reshuffle, but they soon settled and began to dominate possession again. Di Milner scored two brilliant goals, the first from a narrow angle and the second from a short corner to give the town a well-deserved 2-1 half time lead. Tamworth continued to grow in confidence in the second half as they pushed to add to their tally, unfortunately another injury to Kate Caddick temporarily reduced the town to 10 players but the side kept their shape and discipline with Vicky Sanford, Chris Mander and Jo Bryan defending brilliantly as they withstood some Lichfield pressure, a break from Elaine Foxley saw her score a fine individual goal to give the town a two goal cushion. Restored back to full strength Tamworth were unlucky not to add more goals but were pleased to secure their first three points of the season. League POM Elaine Foxley Team POM Elissa Morris |
