Match Report

The ladies 3’s opening league game of the season ended in disappointment with a 3-2 loss to Stafford. Tamworth started the game on top moving the ball around nicely but were unable to break down the Stafford defence and unfortunately it was the visitors who broke the deadlock from a penalty corner strike.  Town continued to press forward looking for an equaliser, Di Milner was denied a by an excellent diving save before a rare Stafford attack gave them a 2 nil lead. Tamworth gave themselves a lifeline and Milner was rewarded for her hard work as she flicked the ball home following a flowing move involving Claire Miles, Elaine Foxley and Jo Cliffe.  In the second half the game opened up as the town looked for an equaliser, Tamworth’s defensive quartet of Kate Caddick, Paula Cooper, Vicky Sanford and Chris Mander made some important tackles and clearances with GK Vicky Butler also making a number of good saves. Town finally secured a well-deserved equaliser when Claire Miles scored from the penalty spot after an Elaine Foxley shot was illegally stopped on the line.  With the game heading for a draw Stafford grabbed a late goal and although Tamworth threw everything at Stafford they were unable to get that all important goal. This was a positive performance and bodes well for the coming season with new members Angie Venables and Gaynor Dawson making impressive debuts.
