Match Report | Tamworth Men's First XI suffered a 13-1 away thrashing at the hands of table topping Boots on Saturday. Town were under the cosh from the early stages as the hosts scored twice early on with well worked goals. Tamworth finally seemed to be working their way into the game only to gift Boots another before a fluke deflection gave Boots a four goal lead. Town then had a better period in the middle of the first half where they kept their opponents out and managed to string some passes together but again conceded late in the half to be 5-0 down at the break. In the second half things only got worse as Boots scored at regular intervals with only a breakaway consolation goal for Tamworth. An aerial ball found Tom Hancox and he held off the last defender and drew the keeper before slipping the ball to Tom Sperrink to push into the empty net. This only seemed to fire up the opposition further and whilst Town's midfield and defence battled tirelessly they simply couldn't stop the home side from scoring further goals. A frustrating and disappointed result and performance against a better, yet classless, opposition and Tamworth will need to regroup with a crucial local derby against Nuneaton on Saturday which is likely to decide which side finishes highest this season. |
