Match Report | Tamworth Men’s First XI suffered another defeat this time 5-2 at home to high flying Ashby. The visitors started the game the better using some neat first time deflections to move the ball around at pace and stretch Tamworth’s midfield and defence. Tamworth ‘keeper Simon Carey made a series of excellent saves but as the attacks kept coming Ashby finally broke through and scored three goals in quick succession. Tamworth shuffled their team and the introduction of Tom Grimshaw paid immediate dividends as he intercepted a pass high in Ashby’s half and his ball found the onrushing Tom Sperrink who tapped in just before colliding with the post. Unfortunately Town couldn’t build on this and conceded a further goal before the break to go in 4-1 down. Tamworth changed formation for the second half which seemed to help stem the tide of Ashby attacks Town started to grow into the game and create chances. Grimshaw and Sperrink were both denied by the keeper, Grimshaw with a strike from a penalty corner and Sperrink with a shot from the left. Grimshaw then turned provider again as an Ashby defender missed an aerial pass and while lurking in behind and his cut back found Ryan Brisco who struck a powerful shot past the defender on the line. Ashby struck again to re-establish their 3 goal advantage and although it is another frustrating defeat Tamworth showed in the second period the kind of performance they will need in the next few weeks including away at Nottingham on Saturday. |
