Match Report | Tamworth Men’s First XI lost 5-1 away to Nottingham Trent University but the score line was much harsher than the performance deserved. Town started the game strongly and the opening exchanges saw both sides move the ball well without any clear cut chances arriving. As the first half went on the hosts gained more possession and territory and the entire Tamworth side worked hard to keep the score level as the game remained 0-0 at half time with Dave Langford and Ben Acheson once again imperious at the back and the tripartite of Ian Wagstaff, Andy Parker and Ryan Brisco marking their players out of the game. After the break the pattern of the game remained that Trent pressed Tamworth back with some excellent movement but were limited to very few clear cut chances. Tamworth carried a threat on the break and after a disallowed goal for the hosts, following confusion with an umpiring decision, it was Tamworth who broke the deadlock. Tom Hancox broke down the right wing beating his man and then laying the ball back to the top of the D for Tom Sperrink to strike first time into the corner. Unfortunately that was as good as it would get for Tamworth as the home side pushed again and were rewarded with three well worked team goals. Tamworth still offered a threat but with decisions going against them as a penalty flick was converted and a late shot giving the score line a more one sided appearance than Town deserved. |
