Match Report | Tamworth Men’s First XI suffered a 3-0 defeat in their opening league game of the season away to Market Harborough. Tamworth trialled a new formation early on but struggled to contain the threat from wide positions of Market Harborough and despite weathering a period of sustained pressure from the hosts this eventually told as they opened the scoring with a close range finish. Tamworth re-organised and in a more familiar setup started to feel their way back into the game and gained more possession and territory as they went into the half time break 1-0 down.
After the interval Town were more solid but struggled to assert themselves on the game and a lack of movement and some sloppy passing led to Market Harborough doubling their lead before they put the game to bed late on with a third goal. Town did create a couple of chances late in the game most notably from Ian Wagstaff who was denied with one strike from a penalty corner and one from open play. Tamworth were indebted to the efforts of Dave Langford, Ben Acheson and goalkeeper Simon Carey for keeping them in this contest for long periods of the game and J Haywood slotted smoothly back into the team and added extra steel in the midfield when need. Town must keep the ball better and improve their movement but will look to get their first points on the board on Saturday with their first home game of this new season. |
