Match Report | Tamworth Mixed XI progressed to the next round of the Mixed Cup with a 2-1 away victory over Stafford. Tamworth had started on the front foot with Alex Banks setting up Tom Sperrink for two good chances. Stafford bounced back and had a sustained period of pressure with multiple penalty corners conceded and repelled, with Tony Banks on hand in goal to keep the teams level. Town eventually weathered the storm and it was from a penalty corner that they broke the deadlock when Gemma Rowe and Rebecca Popple played a one-two for Rowe to strike low into the corner. In the second half neither side dominated as both teams tired and the game became scrappy. James Griffin and Rachel Rowe had to work hard to stop Stafford’s pacey attacks down their left wing. Stafford struck the post when it appeared easier to score but equalised soon after. Tamworth then snatched the win late on when Banks laid the ball off for Sperrink to fire into the top corner. |
