Match Report | Tamworth Men’s First XI ran out convincing 6-0 winners away at Long Buckby with Ryan Brisco the four goal star of a ruthless display of breakaway hockey. Town showed attacking intent from the start and Brisco soon opening the scoring when he controlled a cross from the right before smashing into the far corner. Brisco then doubled Tamworth’s advantage as Tom Sperrink played a low ball across the face of goal which Tom Hancox left for Brisco to tap in at the far post. Long Buckby tried in vain to gain a foothold in the match, with Andy Parker and Ian Wagstaff in midfield shackling the host’s main playmaker and Wagstaff demonstrating his attacking expertise as one of his aerial passes was knocked down first time by Sperrink into the path of Brisco to complete his hat trick. When Sperrink played Brisco in late in the half the result was confirmed as he coolly chipped the onrushing keeper to give Tamworth a four goal lead at the break. In the second half the hosts fought hard and Tamworth had to weather a period of pressure but Town showed their superiority and Tom Hancox grabbed Tamworth’s fifth from a penalty corner with a powerful strike inside the left hand post. Sperrink rounded off the day’s scoring, captialising on a loose pass by the Long Buckby full back, to round the keeper and slot home from a tight angle. Tamworth will be delighted to claim maximum points from the opening two fixtures and Captain Tom Hancox will be doubly pleased with an impressive display first team league debutant Cameron Hancox. |
